PERUTUSAN PENGETUA -  2017

Salam Sejahtera dan Salam Sehati Sejiwa

 
Selamat kembali ke sekolah untuk sesi persekolahan tahun 2017. Sempena tahun baharu 2017, marilah kita imbas kembali tentang keberkesanan usaha-usaha/misi kita dalam melestarikan pendidikan berkualiti untuk membangunkan potensi anak murid bagi memenuhi aspirasi negara di samping kita menetapkan halatuju dan fokus kita sepanjang tahun 2017 dalam mendidik anak murid supaya menjadi insan holistik yang harmonis dan seimbang dari segi intelek, rohani, emosi dan jasmani.

 
Sepanjang tahun 2016, kita meneruskan kesinambungan usaha kita membangunkan potensi murid kita melalui pendekatan “Engage, Enhance and Empower”. Pihak sekolah mengharapkan semua guru bukan setakat menjalankan tugas sebagai pengajar tetapi menjadi seorang guru yang berjiwa pendidik dan penyayang, yang mengambil tahu latar belakang dan keperluan murid berdasarkan “muitiple inteligence  murid serta boleh membina hubungan yang baik untuk melibatkan (engage) murid-murid dalam pembelajaran. Kita membangunkan dan memperkukuhkan (enhance) pelbagai kemahiran melalui aktiviti kokurikulum dan pendekatan pendidikan abad ke-21. Sebagai sebuah sekolah projek rintis Sistem Pendidikan Abad ke-21 (SPA 21), masih ada ruang untuk semua guru memperluaskan pendekatan SPA 21 dalam P&P untuk pembelajaran aktif yang berpusatkan pelajar. Kita mengupayakan (empower) murid-murid dengan menyediakan peluang dan ruang seluas-luasnya untuk mereka mempelajari nilai, ilmu pengetahuan dan pelbagai kemahiran melalui program-program sekolah termasuk pemupukan tabiat “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People ”.

 
Sepanjang tahun 2016, selaras dengan kehendak gelombang kedua Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia, kita telah memanfaatkan kemudahan ICT dalam pembelajaran dan pengajaran. Tidak dapat dinafikan bahawa guru-guru telah dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kemahiran menggunakan platform pembelajaran maya. Pihak sekolah juga telah menyarankan supaya guru-guru menggunakan pendekatan “flipped classroom” dan kemudahan ICT seperti internet dan site mata pelajaran guru untuk memupuk tabiat pembelajaran terarah kendiri (self-directed learning). Dalam renungan kembali, saya dapati kita masih ada ruang untuk peningkatan keberkesanan pendekatan p&p tersebut.

 
Untuk tahun 2017, halatuju dan fokus kita tetap sama, iaitu melestarikan sistem pendidikan berkualiti untuk membangunkan potensi murid bagi memenuhi aspirasi negara. Selaras dengan kehendak transformasi pendidikan Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia dan pelaksanaan KSSM pada tahun 2017, Ketua Pegawai Pendidikan Daerah Pejabat Daerah Petaling Utama memberi amanat supaya sekolah memperluaskan pendekatan SPA 21 ke semua bilik darjah dan semua mata pelajaran, melaksanakan pembelajaran modular, pengajaran pasukan kolaboratif (colaborative team  teaching) dan Project Based Learning  untuk pembelajaran aktif dan “deep learning” .

 
Sebagai pengetua yang akan bersara, saya mengucapkan setinggi-tinggi pengharagaan kepada semua warga sekolah atas segala kerjasama dan sokongan padu yang diberikan kepada saya sepanjang tempoh saya meneraju kepimpinan sekolah kita sejak bulan Nov 2011. Saya juga berharap apa-apa program yang bermanfaat dalam pembangunan sahsiah murid (character building) dan sistem pendidikan berkualiti dapat dilestarikan.

Brief concept of Theme and the implementations:

Engage
  • To participate or get involved in
  • To build relationships with people and putting those relationships to work to accomplish some goals
  • Teachers establish good understanding with the students in order to engage the students in all programs of educational excellence in academic, co-curricular and character development.
  • School administrators engage the teachers to achieve the school objectives and quality education.
  • The school engages all the stakeholders (Marist Brothers, Board of Governors, Parent and Teacher Association, Alumni, parents and local communities) to further develop the school.
Enhance
  • To increase or improve in value & quality
  • Students enhance the good moral and spiritual values, good characters and personality.
  • Students enhance their knowledge through reading and lifelong learning.
  • Students enhance their study skills, soft skills and 21st century skills (collaboration, creative, innovative, problem solving skill etc)
  • Teachers enhance their professionalism (integrity and ethical values)
  • Teachers enhance their pedagogy skills incorporating computer skills
  • Teachers enhance their subject matter through continuous professional development and lifelong learning
  • Teachers enhance their "role model" as an educator.
  • Administrators enhance leadership, management and collaboration skills

Empower
  • To give power or authority to accomplish something
  • To give power to oneself to gain control over one's own lives
  • Involve development of the confidence and understanding the strength and weaknesses to set realistic goals
  • Students empower oneself to control their own life. Take 100% responsibilities of their own life. Their own future is in their hands
  • Teachers empower themselves to be leaders in their respective goals
  • Teacher empower themselves to be good educators and role models
  • Administrators empower themselves  and others to achieve educational and organizational goals
All stakeholders in education need
  • To engage with one another to build good relationships to accomplish our common goals in education
  • To enhance ourselves in terms of knowledge, attitudes and skills in order to add values to us so as to add values to others.
  • To empower ourselves to take 100% responsibilities of our future
  • To empower ourselves to make a difference as students, educators (not teachers), parents and school leaders to contribute towards producing holistic individuals through quality education

            We each begin life as a infant, we are totally dependent on others. We are nurtured
           and sustained by others. Then gradually we become more and more independent,
            inner-directed and self reliant.  As we continue to grow and mature, we become
            increasing aware that our lives and success are  interdependent on the people 
           around us.

 2.1   Dependence is the paradigm of “you”.

·         You take care of me;

·         you come through for me.

    Dependent people needs others to get what they want.

2.2   Independence is the paradigm of “I”.

·         I can do it,

·         I am responsible,

        I am self reliant.

     Independent people get what they want through their own efforts.

2.3   Interdependence is the paradigm of “we”.

 ·      we can co-operate,

·         we can combine our talents and abilities to create something great together.

     Interdependent people combine their own efforts with the efforts of others to  achieve greater success.

 
Conclusion:

The students should not be dependent on teachers. The students should be independent and be more proactive and have the initiative to do works on their own. More importantly, the students should help each other by sharing materials and information through the concept of interdependence.
